Free thematic analysis tool for open-ended responses

Drop in a CSV or Excel file of survey answers, reviews or comments. Apercu groups them into themes, names each theme with AI and shows how often it comes up. No account or card needed for the preview.

How it works

  1. Upload your file. Any CSV, XLSX or XLS file up to 3 MB with a column of text, one response per row.
  2. Confirm the text column. Apercu suggests the column that holds the responses.
  3. See your themes. Up to 15 AI-labeled themes from the first 500 responses, with the size of each theme and a sample of the responses behind them.
  4. Save it if it is useful. Create a free account to keep the project, browse every response and run more analyses.

Frequently asked questions

Is this thematic analysis tool really free?

Yes. You can upload a file and see the AI-labeled themes without creating an account or entering a card. To save the analysis and browse every response in each theme, create a free Explorer account, which includes 5 analyses per month of up to 2,500 rows each.

What file formats can I upload?

CSV, XLSX and XLS files up to 3 MB with at least one column of text. Apercu suggests the text column for you, and you can pick a different one.

How many responses can the free preview analyze?

The no-account preview analyzes the first 500 non-empty responses and groups them into up to 15 themes. Paid plans analyze up to 100,000 rows per file.

What happens to my file?

Files uploaded through the free preview are stored temporarily and deleted after the analysis completes. Apercu does not use your content to train AI models.

What kind of text works best?

Many short to medium answers to the same question: open-ended survey responses, NPS comments, product reviews, support ticket descriptions or feedback form entries. At least a few dozen responses gives the clearest themes.

Does it work in other languages?

English gives the best results. Other languages can produce usable themes depending on the data, but label quality is lower.

Want to keep your themes?

Create a free account to save projects, browse every response and run 5 analyses a month. No credit card required.
